I entered the rapid-paced experience of being on the frontline of medicine in 1978, choosing Emergency Medicine as my specialty. For forty-three years, I staffed emergency departments, from single cot chambers in small rural towns to massive multiroom downtown urban trauma centers. This book documents my experiences, describing how the understanding and delivery of medicine has evolved, with chapters on many different medical fields and peppered with case histories
